Gartner forecasts that by 2028 more than one-third of enterprise software will contain agentic AI. KPMG (cited by IBM) shows 88% of organizations are already exploring or piloting agents. Yet Gartner’s AI Readiness data exposes the structural failure:

IBM is explicit: AI agents are black boxes. Autonomous tool calls, multi-step reasoning and external actions make it “difficult to trace how AI agents generate specific outputs.” The consequences are compliance exposure, unexplainable failures and liability that remains entirely on the enterprise.
Existing observability layers — including IBM watsonx.governance and Instana — produce internal traces that require system access and remain vendor-dependent.
